Review | Coco Loco Organic Coconut Oil Hair Mask by Old Wives Tail

I have been dyeing my hair various colours for around 8 years and as many of you know it can be a struggle to find products that bring back the balance and moisture to your locks after you have coloured your hair.
I have been wanting to try more natural hair treatments since transitioning to using only cruelty-free beauty products, so it was a welcomed surprise when I received an email from a representative for the company Old Wives Tail asking if I would like to try one of their organic hair treatments. I accepted their offer and I was excited see what their product could do!

Before I jump in to my review, let me tell you a little more about the company. Old Wives Tail is a small hair care company that sells handmade organic hair care treatments. Not only are they cruelty-free but 10% of their profits go to charities that are committed to ending animal testing in the beauty industry. Their products are made from completely natural ingredients, they are suitable for vegans and they don't contain any additives, chemicals or parabens.

I was sent the 'Coco Loco Organic Coconut Oil Hair Mask'.
"Just one scoop will add lustre, strength and shine to any hair type. When massaged into your scalp Coco-Loco will stimulate each and every hair follicle and promote healthy hair growth. Its natural antibacterial properties and nutrients get to work at calming and soothing any dry or flaky areas of your scalp. What’s more is when this mask is used over a period of time it can aid in protecting the natural colour pigmentation of your hair and prevent early greys from sprouting! "

Ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Prunus Dulcis (Almond) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil.

The first thing that hits you is the beautiful smell. The name indicates that it might smell like coconut oil, but I found that it's strongest scent is peppermint. After using this treatment I received compliments from friends and family as they loved the smell!
I used this mask twice a week for a month and I noticed that my hair felt softer and appeared to be considerably shinier than usual after every treatment. My scalp and the length of my hair are fairly dry, whilst my roots get oily pretty quickly which causes me to wash my hair more often than I would like. I was delighted when I noticed that this product reduced the oiliness and although I didn't feel any improvements to the condition of my scalp, it's possible that I haven't used it long enough for it to cause any obvious changes.

I'd estimate that you'd get at least 10-12 uses out of this product if you have long hair. My hair is long and pretty thick and I used a handful of the product each time, but as you can see there is still at least half left. I noticed that the treatment solidifies a little after each use, but it is easy enough to scrape/scoop out and soften it up again with the warmth of your hands.

Pros
  • Improved shine.
  • Reduced oiliness.
  • Gorgeous smell (as long as you like peppermint).
  • Affordable.
  • Completely natural and organic ingredients.
  • No parabens.
  • Cruelty-free/vegan-friendly company.
  • 10% of proceeds go to charity.
Cons
    • Didn't improve the condition of my scalp (after 5/6 uses).

I can honestly say that I loved using this product and I am eager to try the other treatments that Organic Wives Tail sells.

This particular treatment is currently on offer at £9.99 (usually £14.99) on the Old Wives Tail website and they offer free worldwide delivery!

Please note: All of my reviews give my 100% honest opinion and although press samples are occasionally provided, I do not receive any compensation from the companies mentioned.

    Fashion | 'My VIP Wardrobe'

So as I mentioned in the 'About Me' section, I am a freelance makeup artist and I thought it'd be fun to occasionally post about the work I have been doing!

Recently I had the opportunity to work with the creator of this fantastic new fashion business 'My VIP Wardrobe'. Myself and another local makeup artist, Abbie Youell, were asked to apply makeup on several of the models for the photos that you can see on the site and I had a lot of fun working with such a great team!

So what is My VIP Wardobe? I feel this quote from the website explains it perfectly! "My VIP Wardrobe is a fashion rental service, offering a range of high street and mid-market dresses to rent hassle-free and at affordable prices."
This is perfect for you ladies who hate wearing the same dress twice! It also gives you a chance to wear a beautiful, designer dress that may be just out of your price range to buy at full price.

Cruelty-Free News | NYX Cosmetics Sells To L'Oreal!

    www.nyxcosmetics.com

NYX Cosmetics is selling to L'Oreal and as a supporter of cruelty-free cosmetics and a fan of NYX I am completely saddened by this.

This is another company added to the list that in recent years has decided to stop being cruelty-free (MAC, Urban Decay, Revlon etc.) and I find it a shame thats so many are turning their backs on their original company morals.

Review & Swatches | Paula's Choice The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

    Hey guys!

Recently, Paula's Choice came out with this new limited edition eyeshadow palette titled 'The Nude Mattes'. After dropping a couple of hints, I received this beauty for my birthday and after using it a handful of times I have fallen in love! It was created with the help of one of my favourite beauty gurus Wayne Goss and wow, have they made something amazing together!

    Ingredients
Talc, Mica, Magnesium Stearate, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polyisobutene, Synthetic Wax, Mineral Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Tin Oxide. (Also may contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Black 2.)

There are a total of 12 eyeshadow shades; 11 matte and 1 shimmer.
The shades are Chantilly, Light Cream, Shimmering Shell Pink, Caramel, Café au Lait, Chestnut, Clay, Plum Taupe, Gunmetal Gray, Chocolate Truffle, Coffee, and Onyx.

A couple of the lighter shades are difficult to show on the back of my pale hand unfortunately.

      Pros
    • Incredibly pigmented!
    • Lovely range of neutral colours.
    • Wears well for 8+ hours.
    • Affordable price.
    • Makeup brush is included.
    • Sleek packaging.
    Cons
    • A slight con for me, is that I would have liked a gold shade to compliment the warm matte tones this palette offers.
    • Limited Edition - I never want to be without this palette!

The Nude Mattes eyeshadow palette retails at £35 and it can be bought online from the Paula's Choice website.

Review & Swatches | Inglot Freedom Sytem Colour Play Lip Palette

Hey guys! So the weekend before last I visited one of my favourite shops - Inglot Cosmetics.
I had been eyeing up the beautiful Colour Play Lipsticks in their Freedom System range for a while and I finally decided to purchase some of the beautiful shades they have on offer - aren't they gorgeous!?

I bought shades 91-95 and I couldn't resist swatching these beauties! I have also added a review based on my first impressions.

    91

     92

     93

     94

     95

    Pros
    • Beautiful range of colours.
    • Highly pigmented.
    • Inexpensive.
    • Easy to apply (a lip brush is needed!)
    Cons
    • I found that shades 92 and 95 require using slightly more product to get a decent colour pay-off.
    • Doesn't seem to last long - I only wore these briefly but I started seeing signs of the lipstick wearing off so you may need to use a layering technique to ensure the lipstick stays put.

Inglot's Freedom System gives you the option to make up your own customisable palettes which you can fill with eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip glosses, eyebrow powders, eyebrow waxes, pressed powders or blushes. You can check out their Freedom System here.
The Freedom System palette shown in the picture above retails at £10 and each of the lipstick refills are £4.50 - though if you work in the beauty industry or as a makeup artist you should be eligible for their 20% discount. Inglot have shops in Cambridge and London aswell as many stores across the world.

Let me know your thoughts on this colourful lip palette!
